One of the first things guests ask after booking is “where do I stock up on groceries?” I manage two units at Pelican Beach Resort and I give guests this same rundown every time. Here it is in full — every option worth knowing, with honest notes on what each store is actually good for and what’s closest to the resort.
Short version: you have solid options in every direction. Two Publixes, Whole Foods, Walmart, Target, The Fresh Market — and a few hidden gems most guests never discover.

Closest Grocery Options to Pelican Beach Resort
Winn-Dixie — 0.4 miles east, 2 min
981 US-98 E · Mon–Sun 7am–10pm
The closest full supermarket to the resort by distance. Solid selection, good deli counter, hot bar that’s popular with guests grabbing a quick dinner. Beach accessories stocked too. The wine and beer section is well reviewed.
Heads up — this location is converting to Aldi in April/May 2026. Verify it’s still open before your trip if you’re arriving after May 2026.
Destin Euro Market — ~0.5 miles, walkable

A genuine local gem that most tourists never discover. Eastern European imports — Bulgarian and Polish cheeses, smoked meats, specialty chocolates, sausages, imported breads. If you’re from Eastern Europe you’ll feel right at home. If you’re not, it’s worth a visit just for the selection of things you can’t find at Publix. The owners are warm and the prices on imported goods are fair.
Destin Ice Seafood Market & Deli — ~0.9 miles west
US-98 W area · Call ahead for hours
If you’re staying in a unit with a full kitchen and want to cook fresh Gulf seafood — this is your stop. Local catch, properly handled. Our units at Pelican Beach have full kitchens for exactly this. A grouper dinner you cooked yourself, on the balcony, watching the Gulf — hard to beat.
Full Supermarkets — 3 to 8 Minutes Away
Whole Foods Market — ~0.8 miles west, 3 min
4402 Legendary Dr · Daily 7am–10pm
The closest large grocery store to Pelican Beach and the one many guests gravitate toward first. Organic produce, excellent prepared foods counter, a solid wine and cheese selection. Good for stocking a full kitchen for a week. Prime members get discounts. The prepared foods are especially useful on arrival day when you don’t want to cook after traveling.
Publix — Miramar Beach, ~1.0 mile west, 3 min
US-98 W · Daily 7am–10pm
Publix is a Florida institution and this location is the closest full-service option in the west direction. The deli is excellent — the famous Pub-Sub is a real thing and a real meal. BOGO deals rotate weekly and are worth checking. Friendly staff, clean, well-stocked. If you’re doing a full weekly shop on arrival day, this or the Commons location are your two best bets.
Publix — Destin Commons, ~1.5 miles east, 5 min
4425 Commons Dr E · Daily 7am–10pm
The second Publix location, right at Destin Commons near Target and The Fresh Market. Slightly larger than the Miramar Beach location. Same great deli and rotating BOGO deals. If you’re headed to Destin Commons for anything else, this is a natural stop.
Walmart Supercenter — ~2.5 miles east, 7 min
US-98 E · Open 24 hours
The practical choice for families. Open 24 hours, full grocery section, beach gear, sunscreen, floaties, chairs, coolers — everything for the week under one roof. Not glamorous but gets the job done at the best prices. Good option for a big arrival-day haul when you need everything at once.
Target — Destin Commons, ~2.2 miles east, 6 min
Destin Commons · Daily 8am–10pm
Target’s grocery section covers the essentials plus good snack and beverage options. The real value here is the combination — grab groceries and pick up anything else you need for the vacation in the same trip. Destin Commons is an open-air shopping center so it’s a pleasant stop.
The Fresh Market — ~2.8 miles east, 8 min

The specialty choice for food-focused travelers. Excellent butcher counter with premium cuts, artisan cheeses, specialty wines, prepared foods. If you’re planning to cook a proper dinner at the condo, this is where you source the ingredients. Smaller than a full supermarket but higher quality across the board on meats, produce, and specialty items.

For guests who want to arrive to a stocked fridge, ordering the night before departure and scheduling delivery for the morning after check-in is the smoothest approach. If you’re arriving Saturday (peak check-in day), grocery stores on US-98 get genuinely busy in the afternoon as everyone stocks up at the same time. Either go early in the morning before you head to the beach, or order via Instacart the night before arrival and schedule delivery to the resort for that morning.
The Publix Miramar Beach location tends to be slightly less crowded than the Commons location on busy check-in days.
