Practical tips for seafood & fine dining in Destin
Reservations: Beach Walk Café, Seagar’s, and Louisiana Lagniappe need reservations in peak season — book 2–3 days ahead. Back Porch, Dewey Destin’s, Boshamps, AJ’s, and Boathouse are walk-in only.
Timing: Dinner rush is 6–8pm on weekends. Harbor restaurants are best at happy hour (3–6pm). Early dinners at 4:30–5:30pm mean shorter waits and often better service.
Budget: Most harbor seafood restaurants run $30–40/person at dinner, $15–20 at lunch. Commelfo gives you fine dining quality at a fraction of Beach Walk or Seagar’s prices.
From Pelican Beach Resort: The Back Porch is 1.4 miles (5 min). Louisiana Lagniappe is 1.2 miles (4 min). Most harbor spots are 5-8 minutes. Commelfo is 7.5 miles (15 min). Beach Walk Café is 4 miles (10 min). Seagar’s is 8 miles (15 min).

Frequently asked questions about Destin seafood restaurants
What is the best seafood restaurant in Destin for first-time visitors?
The Back Porch. Beachfront, casual, no reservations needed, and the Amberjack Sandwich is a genuine Destin experience. If you eat at one restaurant, make it this one.
What is the highest rated restaurant in Destin?
Commelfo in Miramar Beach — 4.9 stars from nearly 4,000 Google reviews. European-style upscale with lobster ravioli, wagyu burger, and outstanding cocktails. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
What is the most romantic restaurant in Destin?
Beach Walk Café at Henderson Park Inn — intimate, oceanfront, genuinely excellent food. Reserve well ahead. Louisiana Lagniappe is the best runner-up for upscale Gulf-front dining without the full Beach Walk price tag.
What seafood should I order in Destin?
Always ask for the catch of the day first. Local favorites: grouper (mild, flaky), red snapper (sweet, delicate), amberjack (firm — The Back Porch’s signature), triggerfish (underrated), and Royal Red shrimp — local deep Gulf shrimp sweeter than anything you’ve had.
Which Destin seafood restaurants need reservations?
Beach Walk Café, Seagar’s, and Louisiana Lagniappe need reservations in peak season. The Back Porch, Boshamps, AJ’s, Dewey Destin’s, and Boathouse Oyster Bar are walk-in only.
Is there good non-seafood food in Destin?
