2026 holiday schedules checked October 24, 2026. New Year's Eve below is December 31, 2026, welcoming 2027. All times are local Central Time.
Christmas morning in Destin can leave room for presents, a late breakfast and a walk on the sand before anyone asks about dinner. Thanksgiving can keep the family meal without keeping the family cook in the kitchen all day. And New Year's Eve has an option for children whose personal midnight arrives well before the clock says so.
The first decision is which version of the holidays you want. Destin's Christmas parades happen before Christmas week. Some attractions close on the holiday itself. A beachfront condo can make those gaps a pleasant part of the stay: breakfast together, a board game, another look at the Gulf, then out for the evening you chose.
Use this guide to choose the right dates, settle the important meals and leave enough room to enjoy being at the beach.

Thanksgiving in Destin
Start with the meal you actually want
Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, 2026. Decide whether you want a community gathering, a restaurant-prepared meal in the condo or an outing built around dinner. That choice determines how much of the day remains free.
Harbor Docks' community feast — Destin. The 32nd Annual Thanksgiving Feast runs 11 a.m.–5 p.m. at 538 Harbor Boulevard. Everyone is welcome and there is no charge; voluntary donations support Destin Harvest and Food for Thought. If you can contribute, this is a lovely way to take part in a local tradition while helping the organizations it supports.
Thanksgiving at the condo, with someone else doing the cooking — Destin. Henderson Beach Resort's Thanksgiving Feast To Go is listed at $319 plus additional charges for 6–8 servings. Order by Tuesday, November 24 at 4 p.m. and collect it on November 26, 9–11:30 a.m., at 200 Henderson Resort Way. The food comes hot with reheating instructions; confirm the final total when ordering. The generous serving count can mean leftovers for a smaller group; each of our condos still has a six-guest maximum.
A Thanksgiving cruise — Miramar Beach. SOLARIS departs from Baytowne Marina, 8330 Mike Hayes Drive, on November 26. Lunch sails 11:30 a.m.–2 p.m., with check-in at 10:45 a.m.; dinner sails 6–8:30 p.m., with check-in at 5:15 p.m. Published fares are $89.50 for ages 11+, $55 for ages 3–10 and $30 for ages two and under (no meal included). Tax and a 20% service commission are additional. This is a reserved, timed outing on Choctawhatchee Bay, so allow for the drive to Miramar Beach and the earlier check-in.
For other meals during the trip, browse our Destin restaurant guide. A restaurant's usual Thursday hours are not confirmation of Thanksgiving service; use its holiday announcement or reservation system for the actual day.
Let Thanksgiving weekend ease into Christmas
Baytowne has two confirmed, free Thanksgiving-weekend events in Miramar Beach: The Polar Express on the Events Plaza Lawn at 6 p.m. Friday, November 27, and Here Comes Santa Claus on Saturday, November 28, 6–9 p.m., with tree lighting, children's entertainment and fireworks. The venue's November calendar has the current details.
Choose whichever evening suits the family. A movie under a blanket and a Santa arrival are different moods; there is no requirement to attend both.
A comfortable four-night Thanksgiving stay
Wednesday: Arrive, unpack and get the food you need through the holiday. Henderson's order deadline is Tuesday, so complete that preorder before a Wednesday arrival and bring the pickup confirmation. Use our grocery guide near Pelican Beach to plan the shopping; verify holiday hours with the store.
Thursday: Keep the morning simple and arrange any beach time around your meal or pickup. Leave the afternoon open for a walk, games or a very respectable nap.
Friday: Take the best weather window for the beach or a booked activity. If the children want a festive evening, make Baytowne's movie the outing.
Saturday: Try a harbor lunch or Henderson Beach State Park's nature trail, with the required day-use reservation arranged beforehand. If you choose Santa's arrival, eat before the evening festivities.
Sunday: Breakfast, packing and checkout. A longer stay lets you spread the same plans out rather than adding more obligations.
Christmas in Destin
Christmas season and Christmas week are different trips
If your priority is parades, come before December 25. If your priority is Christmas morning beside the Gulf, plan a quieter holiday day and enjoy the seasonal outings that fall within your stay.
These Destin holiday events are confirmed for 2026:
City of Destin Christmas Tree Lighting, Community Center, 101 Stahlman Avenue
Thursday, December 3, 6–8 p.m.
Outdoor celebration with Santa and entertainment. Nonperishable food donations collected; admission price not stated.
Destin Christmas Parade, Beach Drive and Harbor Boulevard
Saturday, December 12, 10 a.m.; no set end time
Starts at Destin Methodist Church, 200 Beach Drive, and heads west on Harbor Boulevard to Stahlman Avenue. Watch from the north side of Harbor Boulevard. Spectator price not stated.
Holiday on the Harbor Lighted Boat Parade, Destin Harbor
Sunday, December 13, 6–7:30 p.m.
Organizer identifies viewing along the harbor between Harry T's and Harbor Docks. Spectator price not stated.
Nights of Lights, Baytowne Events Plaza Lawn, Miramar Beach
December 1–31, shows at 6, 7 and 8 p.m.
Free evening light shows. Combine one with dinner in the same area.
Visits with Santa, Village of Baytowne Wharf, Miramar Beach
December 2, 9 and 16, 6–8 p.m.
Free Santa visits. These dates fall before Christmas week.
For a December 11–14 long weekend, settle in Friday, enjoy the street parade Saturday morning and keep Sunday evening for the boats. Plan parking and your viewing spot before each event. The boat parade is on Destin Harbor; a Gulf-facing condo balcony is not the viewing location to plan around.
If both parades are the reason for your trip, check December 11–14 in the live availability search. Staying Sunday night leaves room to enjoy the boat parade without starting the drive home afterward.
Baytowne on Ice is another recurring seasonal tradition, but its current listing still says final dates, times and cost are coming soon. Check the organizer's calendar before promising the children a skating session.
What is open on Christmas Day?
There are confirmed options, but December 25 deserves a little advance planning.
Christmas dinner at Ovide is scheduled for Friday, December 25, 2026, 11 a.m.–8 p.m., at Hotel Effie, 1 Grand Sandestin Boulevard, Miramar Beach. The hotel's holiday page describes a special à la carte menu and requires reservations; menu prices are not posted there. This is a separate drive east from Pelican Beach, so arrange the day around your reservation.
Henderson Beach State Park in Destin publishes 8 a.m.–sunset hours, 365 days a year, making it an option for a Christmas or Thanksgiving nature outing. Standard admission is $6 per vehicle for two to eight people, and a day-use reservation is required. Use the official park page to reserve and check current alerts before leaving.
Gulfarium is closed on both Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Save it for another day of the trip and check its current hours. It is an outdoor attraction on Okaloosa Island, so plan it around the weather as well.
For Christmas Eve, confirm that evening's restaurant hours separately. Have breakfast supplies and a simple backup meal in the condo before the holiday. Nobody should spend Christmas afternoon discovering that the only dinner plan was an old opening-hours listing.
A Christmas-week plan with room for family traditions
For a stay around December 23–27, give arrival day to settling in and shopping. On Christmas Eve, take a beach walk or an outing while everyone still has energy, then keep the evening for your family's traditions and a planned meal.
Christmas morning can stay unhurried: presents, breakfast and the Gulf outside. Take a short beach visit when conditions suit, or use a reserved state-park visit if you want a change of scenery. Spend the afternoon together, then enjoy your restaurant reservation or a meal in the condo.
On December 26, choose the activity that fits the forecast. Our family activities guide includes ideas by age, while current tours and activities help you find departures for your dates. If you want Baytowne's lights, give that evening to Miramar Beach rather than adding a second waterfront destination.
For a full holiday week, keep a second beach day flexible and leave one afternoon for the activity the children want to repeat. A return visit to a favorite spot can be more enjoyable than another first stop.
New Year's Eve in Destin: December 31, 2026, welcoming 2027
Choose your countdown by bedtime
New Year's Eve in Destin gives families a useful choice: celebrate at noon, enjoy early evening fireworks, or stay for midnight. Choose first, then arrange dinner and transport around that decision.
Noon Year's Eve, HarborWalk Village, 10 Harbor Boulevard, Destin
Noon countdown with a fireworks smoke show; crafts, a DJ and face painting advertised.
Face painting is free. Overall admission/parking prices and the precise activity start time are not specified.
HarborWalk New Year's Eve, 10 Harbor Boulevard, Destin
Fireworks at 8 p.m.; midnight fireworks and a ball drop, plus live entertainment.
Admission and parking costs are not stated on the official destination listing.
Baytowne NYE Countdown, Village of Baytowne Wharf, Miramar Beach
Resort calendar lists December 31 at 6 p.m. through January 1, 2027, at 1 a.m.
Date/window posted; detailed program needs reconfirmation. Event-specific cost not stated.
Seaside New Year's Eve, Central Square, Seaside on 30A
4–9 p.m.; live music, family activities and Gulf fireworks advertised.
Cost and exact fireworks launch time not yet stated. The 9 p.m. finish is not a confirmed launch time.
The noon smoke show is a daytime celebration, so expect a different experience from nighttime fireworks. It can work especially well for young children: enjoy the countdown, have lunch and keep the evening free.
For school-age children, early dinner followed by HarborWalk's 8 p.m. display may be enough. If midnight is the occasion your group wants, keep the afternoon quiet and decide on the return ride before leaving. Give yourself time to reach the viewing area; do not aim to arrive when the display starts.
Baytowne's listing still contains previous-year wording, so check its refreshed program before relying on specific fireworks times. Seaside is a farther-east 30A outing, best enjoyed as your chosen destination for the evening. Trying to visit two countdown venues adds a drive exactly when you would rather be celebrating.
Our Destin fireworks guide provides broader viewing-location context. The official event links above control this holiday's announced schedule.
Keep January 1 in the vacation
For a three- or four-night trip, consider arriving December 30 and staying until January 2 or 3, subject to availability. December 31 can then be breakfast, a beach walk, downtime and your chosen celebration. January 1 stays available for sleeping in, a family brunch in the condo and some fresh air.
Check restaurants' New Year's Day hours before setting out. If you have younger children, do not book an early paid activity for the morning after a late celebration just because the calendar has an empty space.
Is a November or December beach trip worthwhile?
It is a good fit for travelers who want the Gulf setting, walks, sand play and time together. It is a less reliable fit if daily warm-water swimming is the reason for the trip. Winter days can be mild, but cold fronts, wind and cooler water change how long anyone wants to stay outside.
For context, the Destin Chamber's weather averages list November highs/lows of 69°F/48°F and December 63°F/44°F. Those are monthly averages, not your travel forecast. A warm midday beach visit and a stationary evening wait for fireworks call for different layers.
Pack layers, closed-toe shoes and something warm for evening events, as well as swimsuits. Check our Destin weather and water-temperature guide and live beach cams. A bright day may be excellent for the sand and still feel chilly beside the water.
Reserve the meal or event that matters most, then let the forecast guide the daytime outing. A sheltered indoor activity, a film or games at the condo can be a pleasant part of a holiday week. Boat trips need an operating departure and suitable conditions; choose them for the date you are traveling, not because they appear on a summer list.
Make Pelican Beach Resort part of the holiday
Where you spend the morning matters as much as where you spend the celebration. At Pelican Beach Resort, the Gulf-front setting lets you fit in a short beach visit between breakfast and dinner preparations without loading the car.
Compare Unit 707, Classic Coastal, on the seventh floor, with Unit 1006, Fresh Coastal, on the tenth. Each has a private Gulf-facing balcony, a full kitchen, one bedroom and two bathrooms, and accommodates up to six guests, including children and infants. Sleeping space consists of a king bedroom, hallway bunks and a queen sleeper sofa.
That setup makes holiday breakfasts and leftovers straightforward and gives the family somewhere to spend a quiet evening together. The resort has an indoor/outdoor pool option; confirm current heating and hours for your stay. Beach service, the café and Tiki Bar are seasonal, so plan winter meals independently.
For a specific planning question, ask Destiny Blue about your dates, dining preferences and children's ages. When you are ready to choose the stay, check live availability for both condos. Enter your dates and guests to see current availability and the complete price before booking.
Holidays in Destin FAQ
Is Destin a good place to spend Thanksgiving?
Yes, if you want a family meal with beach time around it. Decide on dining or a pickup order in advance, and plan the rest of the day around the weather. Comfortable Gulf swimming is not guaranteed.
Are the Christmas parades during Christmas week?
No. In 2026, Destin's street parade is December 12 and the boat parade is December 13. Christmas-week visitors should plan around their own holiday meal and the seasonal attractions still operating during their stay.
What can children do on Christmas Day?
Beach time in suitable weather, presents and games at the condo, or a reserved visit to Henderson Beach State Park are practical choices. Gulfarium is closed that day. Choose a confirmed meal reservation or arrange food beforehand.
Does Destin have family-friendly New Year's Eve celebrations?
Yes. HarborWalk's confirmed 2026 choices include a noon smoke-show countdown and 8 p.m. fireworks, alongside the midnight celebration. Pick the timing that your children will enjoy without making the next day miserable.
Can we watch the harbor boat parade or fireworks from our condo?
Plan to attend the advertised viewing area. Units 707 and 1006 face the Gulf, while the boat parade and HarborWalk celebrations are on Destin Harbor. The balcony's Gulf view is part of the stay, not a promised event sightline.
